Sirius has had a presence in the Bermuda market in various reinsurance capacities for nearly a decade and a half. In 2016, as part of an overall restructuring of the Group, Sirius Bermuda Insurance Company Ltd. (SBDA) was established and is now the top operating company in the Group. SBDA began writing business after receiving the Class 4 license from the Bermuda Monetary Authority in 2016.

Business Profile

SBDA is the reinsurance underwriting arm for business emanating from the Americas, writing the following classes of business:     

  • Property
  • A&H
  • Crop
  • Marine
  • Casualty
  • Surety

SBDA is responsible for underwriting the business formerly written by Sirius International’s Bermuda Branch and certain U.S. and Latin American based reinsurance business formerly written by Sirius America. The latter is referred to SBDA via Sirius America Re Managers, a licensed reinsurance intermediary. Underwriting authority rests with SBDA.

Effective January 1, 2018 certain territories of Latin America business will also be referred to SBDA.
